Employment Prospects

If you live on some Rochester NY real estate, you have a vested interest in what the job market is like here. Well, there is both good news and there is bad news. We will tell you the good news first. Because you live in the most populous state in the Union, near to one of the most important cities in the entire world, the job market here in Rochester is not as bad as in some other cities in the country during this recession. There are still people working with lumber packaging systems and other equipment throughout the state.

The bad news is, we are still in the middle of a country wide recession. This recession is affecting everyone, everywhere, and it looks as though those effects are spreading wider, instead of decreasing. Wealthy states like New York were doing all right until recently, but headlines have caused confidence in the state to plummet and that has affected all cities. A recent announcement by the New York legislature to force furloughs upon employees, treating them like used woodworking equipment, has many worried about what the future will bring to the city and state.

Some people who protest this measure by the government point out that although the government coffers will be spared short term, in the long term these measures could be quite costly. Less money to spend on food at an Alberta franchise by government employees means that these private businesses will lose money as well, providing even more of a bite in the economy. Not to mention, there is every possibility that loss in the private sector will lead to job loss, in turn creating even less revenues for the state.

While public employment in Rochester might not be going so well, though, the city continues to enjoy relatively stable employment at the private level. This is particularly true in the manufacturing industry, one in which most northern states have suffered over the past decade. Xerox , Ragu, and several other important companies continue to do a robust business here. That means there are employment opportunities not only for laborers, but for skilled trades people who can install crimp terminals and other necessary small features.

And of course, when public jobs go down there is always the hope that private enterprise will go up. Governments can save a lot of money through the use of electronic contract manufacturing and other private services, so if you want to start up this type of contracting business now might be the perfect time.
